Big tree in the back

What do you know,

Big tree in the back;

Something we don’t,

Or something we lack?

Your leaves all died,

Big tree in the back,

As if you sighed

And gave to the grass.

Winter was long,

Big tree in the back.

You sang no song,

Nor wielded your wrath.

How deep your roots,

Big tree in the back,

For you are true,

You stay on your path!

How do you trust,

Big tree in the back,

Letting them fall

So seeds of life crack?

I watch you turn,

Big tree in the back;

You seem so sure—

Some deep truth you’ve tapped.

What do you know,

Big tree in the back;

Someone we don’t,

Or some life we lack?

I John 1:1-4, CEB

We announce to you what existed from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have seen and our hands handled, about the Word of Life. The Life was revealed, and we have seen, and we testify and announce to you the Eternal Life that was with the Father and was revealed to us. What we have seen and heard, we also announce it to you so that you can have fellowship with us. Our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing these things so that our joy can be complete.
