Our Purpose

1 in 3 US families reports a lack of sufficient supply of diapers to keep an infant or child clean, dry, & healthy.

The Diaper Closet exists to assist families in caring for their infants and children by offering diapers at no cost.

What to Expect

1

Check In

Step inside our building, where you’ll be greeted by one of our volunteers who will gladly help you through our simple process.

2

Requirements

For each child being served, we have a short form to fill out. The basic information we ask you to share helps us apply for grants and to report our impact. We do not ask to see proof of income or address. We do not have any other requirements.

3

Receive

After you’ve submitted the form, let one of our volunteers know what size your child needs. They will collect diapers from the closet and pass them to you. Please remember that our inventory is supplied by donation, and we cannot guarantee what sizes are available. However, we aim to keep diapers, pull ups, and wipes in stock.

Our Story

2021 - Present

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Basics DeKalb County began to distribute diapers all around our county, and our church was invited to help. We collected diapers as well as served as a distribution point. When Basics DeKalb County was able to return to their usual operations, they gave us their blessing to continue their good work by creation The Diaper Closet, a weekly, no-cost diaper distribution. Since we started in August of 2021, we have distributed more than 2,500 “servings” (approximately 20-30 diapers) to children in our communities. We’re committed to supporting families in this way, and we extend many thanks to the following groups for their partnership in supplying diapers:

  • The Federated Church of Sandwich

  • Salem Lutheran Church – Sandwich

  • St. John’s Lutheran Church – Somonauk

  • St. Paul’s United Church of Christ – Hinckley

Support the Mission

There are two primary ways you can get involved.

  1. Donate sealed packages of diapers, pull ups, or wipes. These can be dropped off during our open hours. You may also consider organizing a Diaper Drive at your workplace, organization, or church.

  2. Financial giving. 100% of your donation will go to purchase diapers, pull ups, and wipes. When giving online, we invite you to cover the credit card fees so that your gift can have as big an impact as possible. Be sure to choose The Diaper Closet from the options on the giving page linked below.
